Whether you're looking for a quiet fishing hole, a hiking area, or
a senic spot to enjoy a picnic, chances are you can find what you're looking for at one of the NRD recreation areas
featured on this site. The Lower Elkhorn NRD staff and directors invite you to visit the following recreation
areas.
Cowboy Trail
Work continues on the longest rails-to-trails conversion in the nation. When complete, the Cowboy
Trail will span 321 miles. Portions are open to the public now. The trail starts in Norfolk, and is planned to
continue across the state to Chadron.
Maskenthine Lake and Recreation Area
Many activities are available here, including boating, fishing, camping, and hunting.
Willow Creek Recreation Area
Willow Creek Recreation Area covers nearly 1600 acres and is located near Pierce, Nebraska.
Pilger Recreation Area
This area offers excellent hiking, camping and fishing opportunities.
