Flow Meter Requirement for High Capacity Livestock, Commercial/Industrial & Public Water Supply Wells:
Flow meters are a beneficial tool to help manage water use. The Lower Elkhorn Natural Resources District (LENRD) now requires flow meters on all high capacity wells.
Do you own an active high capacity (>50 GPM) well used for either livestock, commercial, industrial or public water supply? The Lower Elkhorn Natural Resources District (LENRD) is requiring flow meters to be installed on these categories of wells by January 1, 2019.
The LENRD has a list of approved flow meters and certified flow meter technicians, listed below.
Financial assistance is available from the LENRD for installation of any new flow meter on high capacity livestock, commercial/industrial, and public water supply wells. Financial assistance is limited and will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis, so please complete the cost-share application as soon as possible. For more information or to obtain the cost-share application, please contact the LENRD.
Please contact Austyn Houser, LENRD Water Resources Technician, at (402) 371-7313 for more information.

Flow meters are a beneficial tool to help manage water use. The Lower Elkhorn Natural Resources District (LENRD) now requires flow meters on all high capacity irrigation wells.
All flow meters and any appurtenances (such as straightening vanes) must be installed by a certified technician. A list of certified installers can be found below. If you choose to install the meters yourself, you will need to become certified. The training dates for those sessions are listed below.
Each meter must have a totalizer that measures units of acre-inches, and must measure flow rate in units of gallons per minute.
The flow meters must be installed on every irrigation well in the district by January 1, 2018.
The Lower Elkhorn NRD will perform flow measurements upon request. This service can help irrigators calibrate and improve their irrigation water management by determining the pumping rate of their wells.
