The Lower Elkhorn NRD is the local agency charged with managing and inspecting chemigation (the application of agrochemicals through an irrigation system).

The Lower Elkhorn NRD received grant funding from the Nebraska Environmental Trust to implement the Nebraska Rainfall Assessment and Information Network program in the District.

Clean drinking water is essential for the health and wellbeing of all Nebraskans, but especially to those who are more susceptible to the effects of nitrate and chemicals in ground water. 

If you own a private well in Northeast Nebraska, chances are you may have nitrates and other chemicals in your drinking water. The fact is, you don't know what's in your water until you test it!

With increasing concern for the water quality of our groundwater supply, now is the time to seal abandoned wells! The Lower Elkhorn NRD offers a cost-share assistance program for the sealing of abandoned wells.

The Lower Elkhorn NRD provides assistance to public water suppliers by helping to develop Wellhead Protection Plans and Wellhead Protection Area Management.
